At Intuit, I was tasked with making the online QB executable more secure.
In 2010, a trend exploded in the QuickBooks support centers. Copies of QuickBooks were being sold across different web locations, for attractively less money. The license numbers were not legitimate and customers were calling Intuit for support for the counterfeit products they were sold.
Acting quickly, a team was assembled to secure any exposed executables and available software copies. Intuit had previously offered all products for download from several index screens listing all titles. These were taken down and redirects put in place for any bookmarked visits.

Normal Telesales operations also directed new customers to these downloads via emails containing valid license numbers to activate the installed products. Business could not prohibit access to the executables, but we could secure them.
Telesales customers, along with any users bookmarking the download locations, were now redirected to a validation page, requiring two forms of authentication; a valid QuickBooks license number and their registered email address.
Designs
I designed new site pages to contain the form interface for the validation, along with methods and language for handling error.
